LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY DAVID COLLETT CAR PARK – CONCRETE REPAIRS.08/07/07

Loughborough University Car Park

When Loughborough University Estates Services required concrete repairs undertaken they selected IRL GROUP to carry out the project.

The work comprised repair of the cast in-situ structure which formed the car park below David Collett Hall blocks A B and C, together with associated decoration and protective coatings to steelwork.

Non-destructive testing was carried out prior to the application of the full Sika MonoTop repair system. Following curing of the repairs two coats of SikaGard Elastocolor W anti-carbonation coating were applied to the deck underside, sloping soffits, fascia, columns and external stairs. The steel beams and posts received two coats of Sika Icosit 6630 Protective coating. All steel column protectors and crash barriers were removed to IRL Group's Loughborough base for cleaning and painting with black and yellow diagonal hazard markings again using Sika Icosit 6630 and were refitted on completion of this.

The entire project was complete within the agreed two week programme to coincide with the University holiday period.

HANGAR RENOVATION ROBIN HOOD AIRPORT DONCASTER.01/05/07

Doncaster airport

Robin Hood Airport has undergone a transformation of it's Hangar No 3 as a continuation of the successful expansion programme.

The Airport Management Team required a heavy duty Skydrol resistant resin flooring system for this project.

IRL already have a proven track record with the MOD on similar contracts and were selected to undertake this flooring project.

Preparation comprising dust free vacuum shot blasting, removal and repair of isolated areas of defective substrate was carried out prior to the laying of the Sikafloor Power Screed system at a thickness of 6mm. All joints were reinstated on completion with Sikaflex joint sealant.

Working closely with Admiral Construction the Main Contractor, the whole 4000m2 area was completed within the tight confines of the four week programme.

FLOOR REFURBISHMENT EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT FIRE STATION.01/04/07

East midlands airport fire station

A resin flooring system installed by IRL has provided a completely refurbished floor surface for the fire station at East Midlands Airport.

Subject to continuous hard mechanical wear from the movements of the giant fire tenders, the existing concrete floor was in need of repair and renovation. As well as the need for a new more durable surface the floor also needed to be aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean and maintain.

IRL specified a resin system from Sika. The old concrete floor was patched and levelled with a 5mm screed of Sikalfoor 91, a solvent free high strength, heavy duty epoxy resin that provides a surface with high resistance to mechanical wear and abrasion. This was followed by two coats of Sikafloor 261, a low viscosity epoxy resin that seals and protects the surface and is available in almost unlimited colours.

The finished floor is coloured red, has a high gloss appearance and is skid and slip resistant.

Safety Line Marking was reinstated using Sika Icosit EG5 rapid curing system. The expansion joints were installed using Sikaflex PRO 3WF chemical and abrasion resistant polyurethane sealant.
